Slurry T20
« on: May 16, 2015, 12:00:03 PM »
No Ryder today which further depletes our wafer thin batting options!!....on the good side, Topley is back, but will he be a little rusty?. Need ALL the bowlers to be firing today as I don't fancy our batsmen chasing down much of a target!!  Mind you, Slurry don't really have ANY bowlers worth tuppence, so maybe our youngsters COULD chase down a reasonable total!

Good job this is a day match, with all these youngsters they wouldn't be allowed out...youth ASBOs an all that.

What a shambles we are right now! Basically a "one (jet lagged!) man team" at the moment (who's about to flee the scene of the crime again tonight too!!). I wonder what Grayson has to say to these two very poor performances?! (I know what he SHOULD say!!)
Also, why on earth is Tendo coming in so low down in the order each match? by the time he gets in the asking rate is nearly always out of control!
Don't know what can be done but all the eggs that are each year put in ONE basket, are already starting to crack before the season has barely started!

Taking into account our lack of players I am not going to moan too much about a poor display but, when you are short of players especially batting it down not take much brain to work out you get your best batsman in early (in 20 over cricket) so what are Tendo and Foster doing coming in so late. It is too much pressure on the young players. I would have them both in the top three and maybe Napes coming in at 3 or 4 and then giving the young players a chance later in the hope that the senior players have some runs on the board. It is not going to get any better until we have a line up including Ryder, Pettini, Bopara and Westley so finals day is a long way off!

Last two games must surely be our weakest batting line up for T20 matches ever - never much prospect of winning either game really. Has any side that has lost first two games in T20 ever actually progressed beyond the group stage ?  Wish I had not already bought tickets for games in later stages of competition - likely to be "dead matches". Wont make that mistake again next year !!

Glamorgan finished in 4th place last year with 15 points, 6 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie and 2 no results.  In the other group the 4th place team had 7 wins from 14 games so there is still a good chance to get through.  The two teams we lost to were also the two teams that finished behind us last year.  If we get these players back pretty soon then I still would back us to get through.

We lost our last three games in the group last year. Let's hope we can do last season in reverse and  go on a ten streak winning run. We will need our top players back obviously.

Performances like this will start to effect crowds. It's not the losing but the knowing you are probably going to lose just from looking at the team sheet. Thought the crowd was disappointing about the size of a good pro 40 crowd.

If the club were putting all their eggs in one basket then they should have replaced Tim Phillips. He will be a big loss in T20.

KKR lost their final group match today and are now very unlikely to make it through to the next stage.  So its very possible after tomorrow, when the last group matches are played,  he will be avaialable for the rest of the season.

Very poor showing by us, I have a gut feeling we will blow out in T20 this season, hate to admit it but Sorry were easily the better side especially given the start Davies & Sangakarra gave them, nice to see Reece back but his bowling was somewhat loose & expensive.
Our resources look stretched especially with injuries & Ravi (still) at the IPL, Velani did ok albeit a little slowly but hopefully he will learn from this. Tendo really has to go in at 3 or 4 especially when Ravi isn't here, also Napes & Fossie need to bat higher as well bearing in mind how far behind the run rate we got.
Disappointing crowd given the weather & also that Sorry normally sells out at ECG, the Club should be worried at how many empty seats there were & if we don't improve quickly there will be more!
I noticed Sky didn't appear to have done their homework as the announcer mentioned a couple of times that Sorry beat us in the 1/4 final last season - funny as I watched Warwicks do that!!

So, both Ravi and Tendo are out of the IPL and should be available for next Friday's game.

Don't be too harsh on the lads - three debutants in this format over the two matches and only playing you'd suspect due to injuries, just one of those things.

I suspect (and I don't agree with it) that Tendo and Foster were held back to give us some experience at the end of the innings but had they batted higher the reality is we might have had a chance going into the last five overs.

As for the empty seats, a Saturday afternoon when the match is on Sky live, PL football still going on and club cricket = not a full house!!!  If the Friday night games don't sell out either then start to panic...
