Needed a second game win to keep in touch, alas a second defeat in couple of days has left with a mighty battle to even draw the series, which would not be enough to come home victorious.

Too much of a cosy club. That's what happens when there's no player consequences for losing in any form of English women's cricket, international or domestic. The transition to county control rather than regional non-entities should help with that, as the paying membership will demand accountability for poor performance/results. But in the short term, England should sack that PE teacher head coach Lewis, he's hopeless.

I watched some of the first game and England's fielding was alarmingly bad, just as awful as it was when I first watched the Women's Ashes properly back in 2019. Worst thing is, the Aussies didn't look much cop either with the bat, nowhere near as good as they were back then. Aside from a few special cases like Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner and Sciver-Brunt, the standard is woeful.

 When it comes to the big games England consistently fail to perform and being a full time set up questions have to be asked why ?
 The Kia league and then the franchise was to progress the women?s game, yes, third rate home series won, but internationally years behind the Aussies .

 Well probably the best it will get, beaten by DL with 15 needed off 5 deliveries.
Entertaining in the fact that eight overs in with rain and lightning ,England innings suspended with them a run in front of DL by a run and the Aussies wanting to remain hoping to get a wicket.
Back on and roles reversed with 5 deliveries remaining England hoping to remain to force victory their first victory of the tour, the Aussies are off.
Aussies are smug with the outcome, but forget that they did not bowl the overs in the allocated timeframe.

Well it was entertaining in the Duckworth Lewis scenario.

The game in this country needs a credible competitive women?s team. It?s becoming a minority interest sport mostly and building on the primary school initiatives so a girl could potentially follow some good stars.

Colleague of mine has his daughter at Millfiled, but contracted to Lancashire.  She?s got back problems hence my suggestion that she turns from seam to spin - can I borrow some cones Nat?). We were chatting about players, such as Issy Wong, who have gone backwards in their careers and whether they?re getting the right advice.

To me the fact that she?s at Millfield reflects the problems of the very narrow pipeline we have for the sport in this country- again mirroring the situation in the men?s game.

Just not competitive when the pressure is applied.
Only one tight game which England capitulated at and the game which England chased the DLS score rather than the target score.
Every home season the women beat their visitors, with effectively only having to manage their best player, just like the Aussies targeting the three best England players.
The success of the England Lions football side perhaps gives the girls more encouragement to chose football rather than cricket .

 Well you cannot expect nothing to happen after a 16-0 drumming .
Lewis and Knight have both lost their jobs has coach and captain.

So next in line, Lottie or Gareth Batty has coach and Brunt has Captain, not  much else to chose from unless an overseas appointment for the coaching role.

The thing is under Lewis,  as the article says England Women won 52 of their 73 matches.  That's far from a bad record.  The problem was the Ashes was so bad as was the West Indies match in the last World Cup.
