5th Test

(1/1)

oldhasbeen:
That has to go down as one of the all-time great Tests.

At the start of today I looked at the weather forecast and thought a draw was most likely, an England win just less likely than the Aussies making it, what with Wood and Mo having fitness concerns and Jimmy looking very one of his 41 years.

Very glad to be proved wrong about Crawley, hope he can continue to score heavily. And Mo did moderately well, despite my grave reservations. But PLEASE, let's have a proper 'keeper in the team, and pension off old Jimmy!

We looked so much better with Wood and Woakes in the team.  Woakes record in England is incredible, 33 with the bat and 113 wkts at less than 22.  It's wonder how he gets left out of any home Test team.  Unfortunately his overseas record is 22 with the bat and 36 wkts at 52 away, which is terrible.
Hard not to feel for Anderson.  5 wkts in 4 Tests at 85 is a terrible way to probably finish his career on.

Player of series Woakes played three tests, says it all. A game against India, while England had Ireland,  got the Aussies out the traps early which probably was the difference. But no mean feat levelling series from two down, and finishing on the front foot .
End of Ashes series, should be the reset on how to regain the urn for next time. A massive change in the bowling department now required with the old guard going.
But high octane stuff, vastly entertaining, and sometimes controversial, made the series totally enthralling. Would not expect little else, which it delivered throughout.

Yet so many think he’s overrated on HYS boards.  As for Jimmy, well sometimes the wheels come off suddenly. Our next Test will have a virtually new bowling attack.
