World Cup final 2022
« on: March 31, 2022, 06:01:03 PM »
Although England are the Holders at present, the Aussies are firm favourites to land the Trophy. From losing their first three matches, one against the Aussies, they have played must win games thereafter to reach the final, whereas the Aussies remained undefeated in the competition.
However last couple of games, England have got into positions but failed to get over the line chasing games against the Aussies. So the ladies will have much to do to get a final win.
Wish them well, especially has like the men, had a poor tour in the Washes, and a chance to gain some revenge.

I would rather them losing the first three and then winning to winning and then losing. So often the team that starts strong falls at the end. The one that starts slowly gains momentum and comes through.

The format is deeply flawed. It is ridiculous that a team that has lost 3 games can beat a team that won all 8 of it's and call themselves champions. In Rugby or Football World cups three defeats would mean elimination.

Everyone knows the rules at the start of the competition, you could also get knocked out due to adverse weather and having to share points, although no fault of their own.
In Rugby and Football you play in a qualifying table with just another three sides, while  in this competition every country has played each other giving more opportunity to which England have progressed.

Australia have clearly been the best side having won all their games. If they lose the final that is a travesty in my opinion.

If they are that good, they shouldn't lose!!!

I agree with the above, Teams know the rules when they start the comp.  You could also argue if England beat the best team that no one else could, they deserve it.

Perhaps the only way to stop the travesty, with a only defeat runners up spot, would be to have the final over a best of three formula.

Let’s hope we follow the example of the Pakistan team that recovered to beat us in the mens final in 1992.

Needed to take wickets in the first ten overs, to put them on the back foot, but failure led to being overpowered.
Although several batters needed to contribute more, which against any other team would have chased given the final total accrued, with six overs to spare.
Perhaps at this time only a World Xl would give the Aussies a decent game, they are that far in front of all others, player for player .

Best team won. Really need to up the standard in the U.K. to reflect the overhyped media coverage. Indian team seem to have gone backwards, which was not good for the tournament- ironically it would have been better to hold the finals in the U.K. where lockdowns are hopefully ended rather than the back of beyond.

Overhyped media coverage of sport in the UK?  Who’d have thought it?

Yes the BBC is pushing certain American sports like they have lost the rights to all the best homes in homegrown games. Bit like World of Sport and the cycle ballet.

The BBC are given the rights to the Superbowl and the London NFL games for free to publicise the sport. A few years ago the BBC started showing the NFL games that are played in the early hours of Tuesday morning as they obtained the rights for free when the original broadcaster went bust. They put it on the red button with no studio pundits and breaks were covered by a musical interlude.

I heard that the BBC were offered Baseball for free but it was on the condition that they signed for a number of years and the BBC did not wish to do so.
