Members Committee Form
« on: September 22, 2021, 04:55:40 PM »
The Club will be hosting a virtual Members’ Forum at 6:30pm on Monday 27 September via the Zoom conferencing platform.

This Forum will focus on the new Members’ Committee which is being formed following the recent changes to the Club’s Constitution. It will be hosted by the recently nominated and ratified Members’ Committee Chairman, Mike Smith, along with Executive Chairman John Faragher and Board Member Peter Butler.

The newly formed Committee will include three allocated positions for Members who will be voted on via a ballot by the wider Club Membership. Further information will be discussed during the event, plus details on how the nomination process will work.

Members will have an opportunity to submit questions to our panel on the night or in advance by emailing: questions@essexcricket.org.uk. The invite to the Forum will be emailed to all Members with an email address linked to their Membership account ahead of the Forum.

Three members for the new members committee.

All members welcome to apply, nominations will require two proposers. Club would like people with skill sets which would be beneficial to the club . Four meetings year, no expenses or costs to be paid.

Interesting. Do the Club identify what skill sets are beneficial?

My understanding is that they are looking for skill sets that will be determined from time to time for those seeking election to the main board but the members group would have 3 people who represent ordinary members' views. A lot of this seems to be driven by the ECB but to be fair this seems to be a positive move. One of the "ordinary" members will sit on the nominations committee which will determine the special skills needed for the main board and give an "official" view on candidates. Apparently some counties only allow  endorsed candidates through to the voting stage but Mr Faragher said Essex are not adopting that approach.

Skill sets?!  Breathing? Ability to laugh at Ronnies jokes?

Or perhaps the ability to argue persuasively that the likes of Irani are not part of any committees going forward....

It does, at first impressions, seem a positive move. I wonder if JPS has had any influence on this initiative? Sounds all rather un-No Change Essex like to me.

The county is not far off from the directive, just needed a few tweaks to conform and which have been put in place.
However what happens to counties which do or will not conform?
So why is the change, is it to stop counties being owned by a individual, so not becoming of problems like some football clubs have had to face ?

Mr Faragher reiterated that the current board are committed to Essex retaining its status as a members owned club. Some counties, notably Hampshire, no longer have that status. I suspect "owners" might be eyeing up the 100 ball franchises as money making opportunities but who knows?
