What a farce!
« on: July 06, 2021, 10:17:16 AM »
The ECB show their total contempt for county cricket by withdrawing all and sundry mid-match to play in meaningless 50 over games. Their greed in staging these matches has caused the problem.

There’s a pandemic on that has cost the ECB millions.  The extra games were the NZ test matches not these limited overs matches.  These meaningless matches are needed to help pay for county cricket in the first place.

So if the matches were known about, why were the players alowed to start matches?

They are not "extra" just meaningless. Who will remember the results in a couple of months? There is no need for this Pakistan tour at all.

At one time when there were a few 60 over One Day Internationals, they did mean something. The games in England were three matches before the test series played for the Prudential Insurance Trophy. Winning the Trophy did have a little bit of status.

The three day tour games were taken somewhat seriously as well. On tour the games against local sides were meant to be serious affairs. As shown by Graham Gooch being no balled in India for throwing due to the Umpire not thinking much about a John Emburey impression.

The original England squad had a few coronavirus cases so a whole new squad had to be picked at short notice.

There’s a need financially.  The only international white ball matches this summers are against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.  It’s part of the broadcast deal to put them on.  The ECB has lost a hell of a lot of money over the last 15 months.

No doubt in some gambling dens around the world. The customers will move away from the big pane of glass with two flies walking up it to bet on the games.

Good. Burn the house down and start again from scratch.

At least it was just Dan Lawrence and not Sam Cook as well.

If we needed further evidence of the contempt which the ECB holds for county cricket then this latest escapade of withdrawing a whole load of players midway through this series of 4 day CC matches shows it up in spades.

When are the counties going to show some backbone and tell the ECB where to get off?! Only the county members, who ultimately own the county clubs, can force the issue.

Not satisfied with Dan Lawrence, Antony McGrath has now been recruited to work with Silvers in the series.

Let's just forget 4 day cricket and play endless one day games. Clearly that is what the ECB want.

Might be in our favour in this round of Championship matches with some big guns being withdrawn in the last minute, which could effect results.
Can understand the ECB reasoning with seven positive tests in the squad.
No different from players being withdrawn or available after playing or not being selected several years ago while playing for England. Did not Collingwood play half a game against Essex for Durham ?

It has never been done on this scale before totally interfering with the games in progress.
