Roots County Cricket Comments
« on: March 07, 2021, 02:00:45 PM »
Listening to Joe Root doing an interview on sky he would like to see county cricket matches last four days. Maybe he says award more points for draws so batsman can learn to play with scoreboard pressure not being a distraction, although this might be more boring for spectators to watch he argues. At the same time pitches should deteriorate as the game goes on to bring the spinning option more viable in county cricket.

For me if we need to learn how to play spin, then apart from producing wickets that will turn. Then it should be compulsory for counties to pick at least two spinners per side and they must have a minimum quota of overs each.

Not sure how you can influence team selection and tactics.  Makes it a bit farcical for me.  I would like to see young batters head over to Sri Lanka and maybe Pakistan to play in the domestic comp.  Westley had a spell in Sri Lanka early in his career.

It's always county crickets fault when the test team fail but somehow when the test team win county cricket does not get mentioned. Tedious rehashing of an old story. The real reason they lost is that the ECB have them on a treadmill of never ending cricket with no breaks for recovery.

I don't think centrally contracted players, specifically batsmen, play enough County Cricket. If they had come up against Harmer or played on the Taunton pitch for the last three seasons they might be better prepared

Extra cash for costs for counties to return to play on out grounds.

Yep. Took the S@Y money, sacrificed the international sides to the endless treadmill of pointless white ball cricket and now a contrived Test World Final to try to combat match fixing.

County cricket is the whipping boy for England failings, but with so few top players making anything more than token appearances, and plenty of county players gaining experience in overseas competitions not sure if this is a credible excuse any more.

Six tests, six ODIs and six T20s should be more than enough for an English summer. Split tours except for the Aussies, when maybe we could play Ireland home and away as a warm up.

I'm sure...it isn't. The whole cricket organisation is corrupt...swimming in the soup of filthy lucre.

Yes, that could help. A spell on a 3rd or 4th day at Castle Park would be good training for any batter. Or the 1st or 2nd day, actually.
