I am surprised that nobody has commented on India being dismissed for their lowest ever score the other day. I think this may have damaging consequences for the future of Test cricket. If India are humiliated on this tour, as seems likely, it will not be well received at home. India are obsessed with their IPL and still treat 50 over cricket seriously. If they back away from the test format and concentrate elsewhere then we are left with only England and Australia playing to an acceptable standard with plucky New Zealand excellent at home. The rest are pretty useless at present.

Isn't part of the problem with test match cricket in India the difficulty in obtaining tickets through official channels?

I've heard some horror stories about Delhi in particular.

The IPL always felt like a way for the Indian cricket fanatics to watch top class players without the possibility of a national humiliation.

There was too much test cricket being played, so the pandemic almost did a favour by giving it a break then restarting with a UK based focus. Even indian supporters will tire of white ball cricket.

This humiliation may stop India being so arrogant for a while, however you look at it this was an embarrassment to end all embarrassments with nobody of the 11 even getting into double figures - a Test record apparently. Truly it couldn't have happened to a nicer Captain!!

Wonder if Jaik Mickleburgh has got any ancestors who served in the Raj?

Well worth rewatching the highlights of that innings. And the way the wickets fell too.

Though I have to admit that my first thought on seeing the thread title was to be surprised that there was a thread on Billy Twelvetrees on here.

Surrey, in 1983, would have been positively delighted to get as many as 36. I witnessed the 14 and the 20 v Lancashire but I contrived to leave Garon Park to take my lad to cricket training as the second wicket fell in that Leicester game in 2011 so missed that debacle. I do like a low scoring game.

That Leics 34 at Garon Park was truly incredible, they had been set 300 odd to win in 4 sessions thanks largely to Ravi (superb 174), Godleman & Masters in batting, then in heavy overcast conditions they never had a chance in face of superb bowling by Masters who bowled like a man possessed getting wicket after wicket, 8-10 was an incredible analysis richly deserved - amazingly he never took 10 in a match for us.

I had to work that day at Canterbury. My pal who was there described it as the most astonishing day's play he's ever witnessed.

Yes I'd agree - when we were out for 114, over a hundred behind, I thought we'd lose. I said to my friend  "we'll need to get them out for less than 50' ...

I saw the Leicestershire 34 all out. David Masters did not put in the best performance of the season. Someone else got a nine wicket haul to pip him.

Something I remember about that game. There were two girls at the game. One of them was the girlfriend of one of the Leics players and the other was her friend from college. During the 34 all out, someone started singing from one side Masters Masters and from the other side the girlfriend started singing sit down shut up.
