London Spirit*
« on: November 19, 2019, 05:25:06 PM »
(*For the unaware, a womens team in The 16.4 & based for some reason in Chelmsford)

Are Essex CCC under commercial pressure from ECB to publish so-called 'news' about this franchise on the Essex website?
If not, what percentage of essexcricket.org readers do the web editors think have any interest in this?

A bit similar to London Southend Airport, then.

Still think it sounds like a gin.

Why not call them the London Seaxes? No one knows what they are, but the downmarket tabloids would have a field day.

Back to Hogarth's time* then, when the streets of London were notorious for gin-shops

https://www.essexcricket.org.uk/2020/01/09/early-bird-ticket-prices-revealed-for-the-hundred/

So they actually cost more than the Womens International matches we had at Chelmsford last year.  £5 to watch England v Australia for members last year.  Atleast £8 this year.

"The Hundred offers brilliant entertainment"

How does anyone know? Nothing has happened on the field yet!

It’s only an offer you don’t have to accept.

If I read & understood correctly then Lords & The Oval are likely to be more expensive than the others, also some days it will cost more to watch than others (at all venues?), so Tues, Thurs for example will presumably cost less than Fri, Sun - hardly fair on the spectators!!

The BBC Text service (which we shall miss, used to have the scorecards on all day when we're home) said the top ticket price would be £35 for the men's games.  I remarked that we could watch two days, rather than two hours, of cricket for that.

The marketing of this thing saying it is "brilliant entertainment etc" really annoys me. I have read several quotes where people have already claimed that it is a success months before a ball is bowled. We really are in an era of fake news. Whatever the truth this tournament will be declared an overwhelming success.

For all the lack of love of this, no one is forcing you to go/watch.  If you dont like it, ignore it.

The point is even if we don't want to watch it, this 16.4 nonsense will impact on proper cricket. To pretend otherwise is foolish - players may get injured and will, no doubt, be offered all sorts of 'offers' to leave Essex.
