2020 Fixtures
« on: November 18, 2019, 11:39:01 AM »
Not content with wrecking first class cricket, the ECB are now tampering with the seconds.
Next season there will be no one day Trophy matches, and only five Championship games (which will be 4 days).
For those of us who like to take in a few days of the seconds, this is a further reduction in competitive cricket.

Since we seem to have abandoned proper 1st XI 50 over cricket- having at last won the World Cup-by running it as a "development" tournament alongside the 100, I suppose it's logical to give up the 2nd XI version as well-and presumably this acknowledges that many 2nd XI players will be appearing in the alleged 1st XI competition.

You may be right but reducing a  potential  10 match red ball Championship season down to  five, also shows the value the ECB place on the longer form of cricket.
Depending on the fixture schedule, we could end up with just two home Championship all season. Will be lose the Coggeshall week? Maybe.

How does that help? 2nd XI matches are free anyway ... we need to support Essex!

This is bad news indeed, for those of us who like to watch cricket played on out grounds in relatively quiet environment.

Will they retain the Coggeshall week, I hope so.

So do I. Will make inquiries locally.

Does anyone know when the fixtures are out - and most importantly for Mr Square and others (including me) when and if Coggeshall gets a game?

As I understand they will be released very shortly. A mixture of 4 day/T20 games

I am informed that the 2nd xi fixtures have been delayed because the counties asked for more changes than the ECB anticipated. They are expected to be out at the end of this week

Some Counties already have published a list,  like Surrey

Good news Slogger.
Essex will play Kent at Coggeshall in a 4 day game, starting Mon 24 August.

I got this from the Kent fixture list, so Kent, Surrey,  and Yorkshire have published theirs, and as usual we lag behind.

Great news, it's always an enjoyable week at Coggeshall, been going for 5 years now.

I spoke with a fellow that has some connections to Halstead CC - he said they were hoping Essex may give them the chance to host a friendly fixture this season so maybe all is not lost there also.
