I keep reading this in a vain attempt to understand it. However, I can't quite grasp the example of Ravi. I do understand the theory of selecting players by price, as it were, but surely it wouldn't matter if you had picked Ravi at, say, £85,000 if he was actually the player that you wanted to spend £85,000 on and therefore didn't mind missing out on that round of the draft because you didn't want any of the other players at that price?
After all, surely the teams will want to get a number of the players from their constituent counties to have any chance of attracting existing supporters to the matches?
Although I suppose it would matter if you had your sights set on all-rounder Fred Bloggs at £100,000 because you would prefer him to Ravi, leaving Ravi as a fall-back if you were unsuccessful with Bloggs. But then you might be unsuccessful with Ravi and end up with an inferior all-rounder at a lower price.
I think I need to lay down in a darkened room.
