Meaker and Dunn are playing for Slurry. The forgotten men and probably surplus to requirements as they've signed Plunkett. Meaker could be worth a punt.

Meaker has been playing a lot of second xi cricket for years.  I'm surprised he hasn't left in the past.  The rumour is that Pillans is going to Yorkshire so it will be pretty much a straight swap for Plunkett.  It's probable that Surrey won't see much of Plunkett or Sam Curran so they do need a lot of seamers.

Agreed, such is the situation with Centrally Contracted players - once upon a time the best bowlers would probably be around for a good half of the season. Nowadays they are only really 'guesting' so there's a reasonable deal playing as a peripheral first teamer for a bigger team.

Mistress Meaker probably understands this and is comfortable being perhaps better paid than taking a step down, financially, to another club. We tend to have a more romantic view of playing cricket professionally.

We'll see. I predict Meaker will be on his bike at the end of the season.

I think Meaker is quality.  real pace and moves it both ways.  if he's even slightly available, we should get in there.

I'd second that re Meaker, a new challenge might be in his best interests, we wouldn't be able to match what Surrey pay but I think he would love to play regularly for a change, he is also no mean batsman.

Meaker is contracted to Surrey until 2020 and is a terrible white ball bowler.  You're looking at red ball only.  He averages 16 with the bat in first class cricket and would add to an already pretty weak tail.  He's 5 years older than Porter and has only taken 29 more first class wickets than him.

He got 96.

Century in the 2nd innings aswell.  Lets hope he can have a good end to the CC season.

Could've said similar things about Masters before he joined us, except with a lower batting average.  He's been bowling on a road, Chelmsford might suit him better?

If they continue having the CC matches in April/May and late August/September then he's not the type of bowler you'd want.  Its the Masters/Porters/Sam Cook types of bowlers that take wickets in those conditions rather than Meaker.

masters had come off the back of a fantastic season and a decent one before that, as a first choice player. how is that comparable to meaker?!

I still think that if Meaker had played more regularly for Surrey his career figures would be much better (they would probably not wish to lose him either). I know that's stating the obvious but he is a better cricketer than his stats suggest imo. In the likelihood of Porter getting regular games/call ups for England we will need a decent replacement for him within a couple of years, maybe even sooner.

When did Wesley morph into Meaker? Having said that not a bad bowler  but a bit injury prone as so many are sadly.
