Yes - Essex with its post 1965 boundary. I seem to recall when residence/place of birth still played a part in who you could play for that Havering, Redbridge,Barking and Dagenham, Waltham Forest and Newham were regarded as part of Essex for those purposes. JK's birthplace always used to be "Ilford" in Wisden but latterly changed to "Stepney" which meant he was born in Middlesex!

Mind you, coming from Castle Hedingham, as I did, anything beyond the A120 seemed like a foreign land to me!

Well the Maplesteads are foreign land to residents of the Hedinghams?

I think with JK he was born in Stepney but was brought up & educated in Ilford inc Highlands School, in the old days Essex's boundary was east of the River Lea so technically that would have made Stepney in Middx!, also that means our claim to the OS as being in Essex is genuine.

Indeed apparently branches of the family lived there - but never communicated with the Hedingham lot.
