On Thursday (8th December), there was a meeting of all the county chairmen at Lord's to further discuss franchaise cricket in England. Try as I might, I cannot find any info to have come out of this meeting. The alarms bells inside my head are ringingh ?!?!?

it would be completely inadequate for a T20.

Saw Essex play a T20 game there.

There wasn't room to swing a cat.

Is that what passes for half-time entertainment on the other side of the river?

If they're considering Beckenham why not Garon Park? That would finish off franchises for good!

I am all for keeping the game going at county level. I think perhaps Essex County council should be contacted and involved in this as it is all for the good of the whole county at the end of the day. I found a form today where you can make your views directly to the council online (could even win a shopping voucher you could give the Mrs as a christmas present lol). Its here http://essexfuture.org.uk/

Anyway, should we think about setting up a lobbying group, maybe involving the other counties too. They wont listen unless the mass of the supporters shouts loudly on this one imo.

Slogger!! You're a freakin' Genius!  Call the ECB - tell them ECCC is refusing to sign up for City T20...and nothing will change their minds...absolutely nothing.  ;)

sounds like you know to much already, is there a man in a blazer and Panama hat standing across the road from your house right now ? Be careful, be very careful. If they come for you we will deny all knowledge of your existence. Sorry old boy but otherwise you'll get us all killed.

Looks like Daren's fears were well placed. The draft format starting in 2020 (you couldn't make that up could you?) has been released. It will see 6 tests the 50 over comp and new 2020 all run at the same time with the two finals clashing. There is more but for the benefit of Jimmy it's in The Thunderer!

A depressing article by George Dobell today suggests the ECB's next target is county academies-too many, they say, so let's reduce them to eight. Am I being paranoid about this? See http://www.espncricinfo.com/county-cricket-2017/content/story/1082417.html

No. Looks like Strauss has a plan to reduce cricket  to being played only in public schools. He's very nearly done it.

There are some good comments worth reading posted below the article - the one from MaidstoneEast particularly resonated with me.

It looks like they've consulted with the County Academies (who are hardly going to agree to reorganisation aka closure) & subsequently ignored their views!!
Good to see that yet again the ECB have the interests of the Counties at heart!!

Reducing numbers results in higher standards, so the ECB believe, except of course when it comes to the number of ECB employees. Funny, we are told too few people watch four day cricket, surely I and my fellow spectators are merely raising our standards, I've always thought I was superior to the T 20 riff raft.
