Is it the start of the 20-20 season? I never knew. Not as if the club is promoting it all.

I think we could miss Pettini and Topley this year.  Not missed in 4 day but will in limited overs cricket.  The middle order worries me a bit with Zaidi and Lawrence probably batting 5 and 6.

The team for the friendly last week was
Bopara
Ryder
Westley
tendo
Zaidi
Lawrence
Foster
Taylor
Napier
Masters
Dixon

Obviously Riaz will come in, probably for Taylor, and perhaps Quinn could play but it looks like they used their first choice team in that match as it was their only practice match.  Ravi opened in all the pre season T20 matches they had as well.  I think he's more than capeable of opening but we'll miss having him in the middle order, where he's very good in the middle overs.

Dixon won't be anywhere near a 20-20 teamsheet.

Dixon won't be anywhere near a 20-20 teamsheet.

I think he may miss out for Quinn or perhaps Taylor.  He did, however, play a couple of games in the Big Bash and if he was nowhere near a 20-20 teamsheet then he wouldn't have played in the warm up match.

Ravi Bopara (25),
Jesse Ryder (77),
Tom Westley (21),
Dan Lawrence (28),
Ryan ten Doeschate (27),
Ashar Zaidi (99),
James Foster (7),
Graham Napier (17),
Wahab Riaz (47),
David Masters (9),
Matt Dixon (30),
Jamie Porter (44).

Editing this to include the squad.  Dixon is in the 12.  Either him or Porter will play.  Probably Dixon I would think.  If Porter was going to play he would have probably played in the Essex Leagues match the other night.  He'd had the Sri Lanka game off so no reason not to have played.

That would be the case whoever Riaz came in for.  Taylor bowled 3 overs in the warm up match and I watched him bowl a few times in the winter in the Under 19 WC.  He looks pretty decent.  His main problem this year is that he hasn't made many runs for the 2nd team otherwise he could be a pretty decent option.

Obviously I want us to do well but realistically I don't think we will, perhaps not even qualify for the 1/4s, I don't think we are strong enough in either department, Pettini will definitely be missed, Topley didn't exactly bowl well last year so perhaps not so much.
Riaz may well do ok but doubts about whether Milne will be fit don't help also wouldn't like to see Porter over used & Masters though wonderfully accurate normally bowls a couple of overs economically but then really gets hit because he bowls straight (strange to say he probably bowls too straight in T20) although in a couple of matches each season he will get excellent figures, Quinn would probably be a better bet than Dixon who sprays the ball about a bit & lacks control.
