Middlesex away tonight
« on: July 10, 2015, 10:09:11 PM »
Not long been back from an embarrassingly easy defeat to a side with 2 wins from 10 previous games, you cannot defend a total of 109 & 3 overs to spare backed this up.It wasn't the easiest pitch to bat on but most of the batsmen tried too many big hits & got out when they could have worked the ball around & got runs almost every ball, at least we could have got 140ish & made more of a game of it. Finn in particular bowled very well, Ravi did too but too many wides again by our bowlers & too many early wickets lost, powerplay wasted somewhat.
The crowd was 3,000 plus, a nice relaxed atmosphere & enjoyable apart from the result!!
We have it all to do now & winning both may not be enough - our own fault completely.

As Ilford says a beautiful ground, well worth a visit.  The game sadly was dire - the pitch poor and bumpy outfield didn't help for a good game of cricket but it was the wrong decision to bat first when we always chase - it was never going to get worse in 40 overs anyway.  I thought after the power play that 130 was a par score if we bowled well but neither happened!!!  Steve Finn was top class and did the damage.

With two games out of three against the bottom team it was there for the taking now we have to beat Middx at Chelmers (no given after tonight) and somehow beat our boogy side Kent at Chelmers who are flying high and have also beaten us - very tough, at least both are home...

At Fortress Chelmsford!! If we play the way we did v Hants we'll win both, if not we won't. Our batsmen need to realise you need to keep the scoreboard moving with runs off virtually every ball not a 6 then nothing for 3/4 balls, Middx scored regularly unlike us, only Fossie & Dawson seemed to know how to play the pitch properly even Ravi after a few decent shots got himself out stupidly.
Maybe we should also have been brave & bowled spin like Middx did but spin normally comes well down the priorities list.

With Gloucs beating Hants today I think if we win both we will qualify & hopefully avoid Warwicks (sorry Birmingham), we have one of the best NRRs so we should be ok, a little lucky but we should make it!
