Recent question on BBC cricket website .

Why are cricket obsessives called badgers?
Never known this saying, hence do not know the answer ?

I think it refers to collecting the badges of each county. You see some people with lots of them on their hats.

It is not that simple. Players sometimes describe their teammates as "badgers". In that case they mean they are obsessed with the game, more than the average player. I have heard Stuart Broad and Paul Nixon both described in this way. I doubt they collect badges. ;)
