Title: Pre-season 2021
Post by: nat on March 29, 2021, 11:45:22 AM
Can almost see a player's career disappearing ball by ball. It's not yet too late to change things but time is running out.

No names but a man of your abilities will soon work it out.

The injury looks bad - poor lad, so worrying for him.

You mean Beard?  Seemed to be serving pies, which would explain Bell-Drummond’s expanding waistline.

I saw him collapse on the pitch, but he seemed to limp off, so I’m hoping that is a good sign.

Send for Dr Nat.

Unfortunately a court order means I cannot use my healing hands. But my coaching skills are at his disposal.

Nat, with your amazing coaching skills and (hopefully) having seen Snater bowl these past two matches, do you detect an improvement in him from what we've seen before. I think he's developed a lot more control of line and length from what I've seen so far, which would suggest he's had a good Winter of coaching. Also Allison looks promising too. Least said about that truly awful rubbish served up by Beard this morning, the better though!!

Has Beard's action been changed?  Was he carrying an injury beforehand?

It is not just pre-season for a player's career to go down the Swanee. A few years ago there was Michael Comber who the jury was out on. He decided batting in a one day match it was time for a go slow. Next he was entertaining the Corporate guests at Colchester.

Haven't seen much of Snater this pre-season so can't comment although his numbers suggest some improvement. I've always liked Allison and he should break into the 1st team this year (ahead of Quinn).

AB has a huge amount of natural ability but that's not enough. Could be going the same way of many other talented bowlers over the years...anyone remember Jamie Grove?

I'll tell you later when I've downloaded the footage from the hidden microphone in the dressing room.

He's one of the fittest players in the squad AB as well, they always bang on about how he's the only one that gives Chef a challenge in the bleep test.

I'm no Nat when it comes to coaching, but long term I see him as a decent white ball bowler. Whilst he desperately needs to learn to control his line (perhaps he's focusing too much on trying to bowl as fast as possible when coming in). He's got variations, has a knuckle ball and a well disguised slower ball. If he was to strictly focus on developing his bowling for white ball cricket then there's no reason why he couldn't have a career like Pat Brown has at Worcester. I worry about his temperament for red ball cricket though.

Shame about his apparent injury (not seen it myself). With no warm weather training and a limited pre season regime, it won't take much for a bowler to pull a muscle and I've been worried about this happening to Porter or Cook in these friendlies. We'll have to rotate pace bowlers in these first eight games as we did in the BWT.

I thought that the bugs were in the women's team dressing room?

Let us all be thankful for small mercies!

If it not been advised that it has been cancelled hardly anyone would have known whether the game had been played or not.
