A great win and chase. Well done.

Indeed. Congrts to the lads.

A good win, just need to kick on but they played on a decent batting wicket maybe we need to do the same. Instead of the lovely green topped ones.

Have to say that this was our best performance of the year so far, or perhaps only performance.
We bettered Surrey in all departments, especially in the field where they spilled 3 chances.
With the exception of Napier we bowled well and my only moan was that Tait was only given 3 overs as he was seriously quick last night.
Ravi and tom played properly and we never looked in any bother.
Also our support away from Chelmsford (estimate 5k+) is unrivalled as was the atmosphere on the tube, its a shame that these loyal supporters are not backed by the hierarchy.

I don't think that it is the hierarchy that is the problem.
These supporters are viewed as Friday night drunks by the 'T20 is not proper cricket' brigade.

Afinetickletoleg, I follow Essex all over the country in all forms of the game and you may not appreciate this form of support which personally I dont either, however without it this county and its finances would not exist.......
On Day 3 of the Leicestershire game they only had 32 non members paying full price.
Its your perogative to do what you wish and personally I am disappointed like yourself that the clubs business plan is aimed at this type of supporter and this style of cricket, but its the biggest income generator and thats what the club exists for.
-
To be honest Crisp I don't mind this type of support and attend T20s and appreciate and enjoy all forms of the game for what they are. I also understand that the club has to milk the T20 cash cow in order to exist.
However, there are a number of posters who frequent this site who view these supporters as Friday night hooligans and wish that these people, and T20, could be ignored while they sit back and watch us win every championship game that we play.
-
My antipathy to T20 is largely based on the fact that the fruitless charge for glory has resulted in a 4 day side that is not fit for purpose.
Mingling with boorish drunks comes way down the pecking order.

A great result in a dismal season so far. And great than so many turned up to support us.
Odd that Tom Westley seems to do so much better in 20:20 than other forms of the game. I had high hope of him as a 1st class player a few years ago, but I never saw him as a quick scorer/

Valetines Park, those drunks as you describe them are paying for yours and mine 4 day game.

Not true. Membership income plus the ECB handout (from Test Match revenues largely) funds it.
-
Nat, If you put 6000 paying £25 each through the gates or 32 paying £12, where is your business plan going to focus?
Life members monies have been spent each year, membership is dwindling as is the ECB handout-fact!!!

More accurately they're paying for 2.5 days on joke wickets.

First "real" all round performance of the season last night, so well done to the team. Shows what can be done in the T20 IF everyone performs. Could this be the start of a T20 revival or just another false dawn?
-
Too much to do I'd say.
Plus a truly dismal T20 season is probably in the club's best long term interests.

Best display I've seen this season when we actually looked a real team totally in control throughout, Sorry reverted back to their recent poor selves especially in the field whereas ours was much sharper.Excellent bowling bar Napes who yet again got clobbered (25 conceeded in the 19th over) Ravi & Tom particularly bowled tightly.
Batting display was good with Tom & Ravi showing their quality with match-winning stand, BTW Sangakkarra batted superbly showing how to work the ball around & find the gaps without slogging - he looked what he is ie a class act (just Andy Flower used to play in T20, Ansari also impressed with the bat again.
Excellent crowd (21k est) with plenty from Essex, good match to enjoy, also great to see Ally in an Essex shirt again - wonder how long it took him to find it?
