Title: Shock news
Post by: Valentines Park on June 05, 2015, 12:05:55 PM
As reported on the BBC Owais Shah is very happy to only play T20 cricket.

He also seems to have conveniently forgotten ever playing for Essex.

If only we could reciprocate the sentiment.

Allegedly also getting £500 per game for Welwyn Garden City in the Herts League on a Saturday. Add to that his normal M-F job (hair restoration! I kid you not) and he is making a nice living.

His time at Essex with Goochy wasn't totally wasted then ;)

This is what I don't get; club teams paying pros that sort of money to turn out for them.

Cricket is not like football where clubs can work their way up the leagues, become professional and compete with the big boys. Some people must have more money than sense.

Doesn't RTD coin it in at the weekend too?

But then I'd expect nothing less from a gun for hire.

I don't know but I would expect that any player registered to a club side to turn out for free on the rare occasions that they play.

Thing is that anyone will trouser £500 if offered so I blame them less than the clubs paying it.
If it wasn't offered they couldn't take it.

Some of the first team do turn out for their old Club sides when they can eg Nick Browne, Ravi very occasionally etc, nothing wrong with that &  ice to see players not forgetting their roots etc.

That's great and I agree that they should when possible; do they trouser a monkey a game though?

I should hope not. That's illegal and, as responsible citizens, we should report such behaviour to the RSPCA.
