Does anyone know if there is a warm-up game on this week against a league select 11? This fixture has been happening for three or four years now and public can watch yet the club seem to do little to publicise it
-
Just been listening to the around the wicket podcast on BBC ESSEX. They mentioned the game is on the 4th July. I didn't catch the time or location. Assume its Chelmsford.

I was wondering about this the other day aswell. We've been doing so well in the CC that the club have been focusing on that. According to this it's on Tuesday 7.00pm at Chelmsford.

Any idea who is in the League team and how they are selected?

Teams for both sides announced today

Essex squad | Ryan ten Doeschate (27) Captain, James Foster (27) WK, Mohammad Amir (5), Ravi Bopara (25), Varun Chopra (6), Matt Dixon (30), Simon Harmer (11), Dan Lawrence (28), Jamie Porter (44), Paul Walter (22), Tom Westley (21), Ashar Zaidi (99).
This looks as if it will be the squad for Friday aswell I guess. Wheater is playing for the seconds. It's hard to see who else could come in. Lawrence and Chopra is a very weak opening partnership for T20. Hopefully we can get an overseas batsmen in.
Interesting that Nick Browne is captaining the opposition.

Agree re an overseas batsman. Think Tamim is a very good shout - we need an opener
I hope they add Wheater to the squad. On his day he is a good attacking bat who would suit the faster T20. And it would include him which would be a positive move
I don't know whether it's just me but I must say I am chilled about the T20 this year. Much more interested in the county championship

I would have Westley and Chopra open. Or they could think out of the box and use Walter
-
When he was on the radio on Saturday Harmer Said that we may have another overseas player by Friday. Club Twitter says to be announced soon.

Think that's a good shout re Walter opening. Wheater has made runs today so, hopefully, he may well be added. And nat's BMF got 4 wickets too!

I may be being stupid (not the first time) but I cant seem to find the league team anywhere (tried that link but it is not there)

Unless there are two Ploms (there may welll be!) he played for our seconds today and took three wickets
-
There are 2 ploms, the bbc programme on Saturday spoke to one who referred to the other.

Did he speak with aplomb? 😎😎
Found this which may "sort of" explain it

Dixon must be in the squad for his drinks carrying ability.

I agree that Chopra and Lawrence doesn't inspire huge confidence, especially when compared to our opponents on Friday who will have two sloggers in Finch and Roy. I'd also be tempted to go left field with an opener except my shout would be Zaidi. He's not afraid to charge quick bowlers and I think he'd do well in the powerplay, at least keep us at 10 an over. Although he could be similar to Ryder in that he'll only come off once out of ten knocks and we need better than that. We only really have two "sloggers" in the team which might hurt us in the competition with "par scores" getting higher and higher by the year.
Another question I have about our T20 lineup is whether Harmer should play? I'm sure he will as he's a fantastic fielder not to mention he's in the form of his life. However he's taken some clatter in the limited overs stuff, not having a "wrongun" delivery leaves him vulnerable to being slogged if you're the opposition. I'd be tempted to just have Zaidi as a spinner and play another specialist batsman instead.
If we lose a few early games I wouldn't be surprised if we sacked it off this season and started resting players in preparation for the Championship run in, maybe give the likes of Callum Taylor a run in the team.

I was thinking that myself. Zaidi, Lawrence and Westley between them did well last year and we don't really need another spinner for this year. As you say he will play though.

...meanwhile Sam Cook continues to take wickets in the 2XI and with a good T20 economy rate.
