Great win for the lads. Good to see Jesse and Boppy starting to get some form.

It was so easy against a poor side, the spinners in particular did well, Lawrence bowled even better than yesterday, Zaidi & Westley too did well, great piece of fielding by Ravi to run out Sangakkarra, nice to see Ryder & Ravi getting much needed runs at an easy, unhurried pace. Another couple of wins against Kent & Hants (the 2 below us) & we are back in the mix.
The crowd today was well down on the usual Friday attendance when we normally beat Sorry at The Oval ,saying that the crowd was much more civilised. Well done the Team.

So much better without Riaz. Giving Zaidi a run is very useful. Very good to hear Lawrence is contributing with the ball. Maybe no need to hunt for a specialist spinner if we can manufacture our own - although I thought Lawrence was our second keeper?

Interesting - and successful -  tactic opening the bowing with Lawrence I haven't seen him bowl - any thoughts from those who have seen him? And has he had much success with the ball in 2nd XI / youth / club cricket?

I wouldn't get too excited about his bowling ...yet. Doesn't appear to spin it much, bowls at a good pace and I think opposition batsman are cautious because they haven't seen him before.

He has done well so far largely because his bowling is an unknown factor & batsmen are aware of taking chances, also field placings have been fairly astute. The test for him may be next year when he is more familiar but credit where it's due so far.

Anonymity is the best friend of the spinner?  On this basis, should ECCC pick one of us each match to bowl spin next summer?

I'd only be available after the end of the summer term. I reckon it would take a couple of innings before the opposition stopped laughing at my googlies.
