Title: Middlesex match
Post by: JasonP on June 10, 2016, 09:54:58 PM
Not sure what has gone on with our T20 batting.  We just can't seem to get going.  In the past three or four years we would have chased down atleast one of the totals in the two home matches but this year the batting looks very poor.  Only Zaidi and to a lesser extent ten Doeschate looked like scoring at anything like the required rate, which wasn't excessive at all by T20 standards.

And what about the dodgy floodlights? Match report says

"But the target grew larger and larger in the gloom of a Chelmsford evening with one floodlight pylon out of action - making it difficult for the batsmen, and the occasional fielder, to spot the ball."

As I have commented elsewhere, is it any coincidence that McGrath came from Yorkshire, good at championship- bad at t20

But for the years and cash wasted on the non-development project we could have had new floodlights at the ECB's expense several years ago.

Hmm,
sounds like an excuse lifted from the Grayson archive. Did he bequeath it on his departure?  ??? ::)

YES, it is and I for one, am very content to see the big improvement in our Championship form this season and really don't give two stuffs about the pathetic T20 form. Mind you, I think the T20 results could be greatly improved if the club just bit the bullet and dumped our star overseas bowler and also dropped all the other "foreign" seamers too and played Porter and Masters instead.

We really should have got 174 on a 170 par ground, we threw it away not for the first time, too many batsmen going for ill advised big shots leaving Tendo too much to do on his own. Zaidi batted well until his dismissal, Lawrence not too badly but he at least has the excuse he is still finding his feet, he did bowl very well though with also some excellent field placings keeping down the runs, all 3 spinners did well but again we only just got the overs in. Great piece of fielding by Taylor (assisted by Quinn) for the run out, felt a little sorry for him whilst batting as he too is learning but it put extra pressure on the others.
If we don't win 2 of the next 3 we are out of it but I don't expect us to qualify this year - as long as we get promotion!!
As has been said already we need to nail down the opener situation - funny how badly we miss having Pettini this year!!
