Title: Somerset

Half way through the match, decent "par" score from Essex but I fear one that will not be enough unless Gayle is removed within 5 overs!

Abject slaughter - but he's gone!

Hmmm ... under par with the bat so always going to be tough to defend.

Bopara 8 runs off 15 balls. A problem.

No balls and wides seems to be a common feature again.

Most definitely, as is some of his bowling tactics too (Taylor before Tendo, Westley, Ryder?!) and also the bowling of our (I assume, quite expensive) overseas "star"!!

I'd love to know how much said star is getting paid for going virtually wicketless at 10 an over-even got tonked in the 2nd XI T20 v Glamorgan.

Expect to see him turn out for the 2's again on Monday at Chelmsford, desperately below par.

If only salary was a guarantee of performance!!

Just imagine, you could buy the trophy!!

The point is, though, is that if that's all he's going to produce you might as well play Tom Moore.

Don't really follow the wham bam of T20, but thought that as I had criticised Bopara for slow scoring in the 4 day game this season, I would look at his T20 record. Only 3 games in, but a combined score of 13 off 26 balls and 1 boundary. Sometime stats don't lie.......

Either a crisis of confidence or ...
...
his eyes are going.

Perhaps the weight of captaincy is weighing him down - perhaps a swop over with RtD is required .

Scores of 1,4,8 in 3 innings are just not good enough by Ravi, he should definitely stay in his natural position & start batting for us in T20 as he can ie score a lot of runs.
Not a good result for us, not a crisis as yet but if we are going to qualify then we need to win 2 of our forthcoming 3 home games to keep in touch, we also Napes fit asap.

Interesting that in the post match interview Ravi says he opened because "there was no one who naturally fitted the role" but says that Lawrence is willing to do this so he can drop back down the order

Agreed. I guess the club's in a cleft stick - most of the imports that we can get now either aren't good enough or not interested.  However, going with youth leaves them open to accusations of not trying as well...

If only we had someone like Mark Pettini, who could at least do a reasonable job...oh dear.

Didn't realise Pettini bowled. That's where the problem lies at present. However if we get out of T20 early then promotion in the CC becomes the priority for once.

One thing I noticed from Friday's fixtures is that both Root & Bairstow played for Yorks, so why wasn't Ally allowed to play for us? ( On the equivalent Friday last year we beat Sorry at The Oval with Ally in the team when ALL England players were allowed to play for their Counties).

Who said anything about opening the bowling?
