Showed Cook's best attribute - the ability to stick at it despite the heat & humidity. Somewhat easier batting after the ball gets soft but, as I often say, temperament is as important as technique: it's ultimately why Cook is more successful than Belly.

Capt Cook, is more successful than all of them Andy, let's hope the middle order can fill its boots tomorrow .

Indeed. Root demonstrating that he's the only one who comes anywhere near to Chef's class. Any painted Saffer can thrash a quick 50 in a 20/20, the test of a true batsman is the concentration required to bat for long periods.

There was a quotation made by a notable writer (Cardus?) about a big innings by Boycott that used the metaphor of a master craftsman building an innings. That applies to Cook - although like Boycott neither set the pulse racing like a Gower or Richards (Viv/Barry) it is a privilege to see these craftsmen at work.

It was a no ball and the umpire failed to call it.

A tremendous effort of concentration. I hear it's the longest English test innings.

...almost as long as G Boycott's rant about Doug Insole dropping him after a rather tardy century back in 1864.

Yes, it feels like a century has passed whilst listening to 'our Geoffery' holding forth about past slights...indeed, I'm sure he'd fit in well on here.

As opposed to David East, who presented the Man of the Match award to Cookie.
Luckily I have a wide screen TV.

Also if he went to the Middle East for the money he has clearly not been spending it on his wardrobe.
