Stop the ECB from taking cricket away from the counties!
« on: August 12, 2016, 03:40:41 PM »
We've started a campaign to help prevent the ECB from forcing through changes to the T20 competition format that, if introduced, could result in huge financial pressure on County clubs.

The new "CITY LEAGUE" plan would merge 18 counties into 8 city teams, leaving fans to switch allegiance from their current county side.

Fuelled by a desire to clear venue debts created by their previous ill-conceived plans, the latest "fix", if unsuccessful, will result in potentially devastating consequences for many counties across the country.

As membership clubs, it is YOUR decision what happens to our game and, at present, the ECB have excluded the members from any of the decision making process.

They've even resorted to insisting that all of the County CEO's sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement to prevent them talking about the details!

To find our more about the issues, read our arguments and sign our petition, please visit our website at:

Many thanks for your support

I'm all in favour of saving the counties.

If Essex get frozen out of T20 it will be just deserts though.

I know we get the lowest rainfall in the country but even with global warming I can't see the ECG turning into a big sandpit!

The club have prioritised Crash-Bang-Wallop above all else & failed miserably at it.

If they've missed the boat I won't be shedding any tears.

You're happy to see the end of the club, then? RIP ECCC 1876-2017?

If Essex go bust it will be because of mgt incompetence not being excluded from a T20 franchise.

Yes it will. Although this is not to overlook the mgt incompetence, of course.

I thought the whole point of franchise cricket was kickbacks.

Essex can reintroduce that Floodlit Cup.

They might even win it.

Nope. The idea of franchises is to destroy the county system. In effect, it will utilise the oversized and far too numerous test grounds, plus a token venue or two, then some bright spark will say why bother with a fully professional 18 team system when you can just have 10?

Bob Willis might finally crack a smile then.

I imagine that there will be a fudge & 2 division T20 will be introduced.

Essex will of course be in with the also rans.

Surely T20 /20 games will still played by counties regardless of franchise cricket ?
The franchise system will take the best home grown players into the set up, but their skills/ talents have to be shown somewhere, developed at first class level to be recognized .

I don't think there is enough support amongst the public for both franchise and county T20 cricket. There would be only one winner.
